First year has been an absolute whirlwind, both socially and academically. In all honesty towards the end of first year I was seriously weighing up my options and trying to decide whether it was right for me to continue with the course. Having said that, now i've started second year i'm completely set on the course and feel fully involved in it which is a huge difference to how I was last year.
I definitely loved creating the booklets we did using indesign as first of all, I love learning new software I find it so relaxing and interesting, so indesign was definitely fun to experiment around with and learn new tips and tricks. I enjoyed playing around with different layouts however I feel that sometimes I try go slightly OTT and forget that a simple and minimalistic style would work just as well. I also enjoyed finally learning how to use photoshop and this has come in handy not just for University but also for my personal blog and work so its a skill that will stay with me for life.
I lacked the most enthusiasm for essays and reports, i'm much more of a visual creative rather than someone who can write for hours and it all make perfect sense. I tend to mumble on and end up re-reading it having no idea what i'm talking about, so this year I'm definitely going to practice my writing skills and hope I can improve them.
I think overall in first year, I just lacked enthusiasm for the course and didn't feel involved or motivated by it. There are a lot of distractions being a Uni student and I think my priorities were just all over the place. In all honesty i'm unsure why I felt like this but having started second year with a complete new outlook on the course, i'm so excited to continue and see where FCP takes me.
